Subaru Shares The Love With Seniors On Christmas Day
Thanks in large part to Subaru's donation to Mid-East Area Agency on Aging's Christmas Day Meals Project, more than 500 seniors home alone on the holiday enjoyed hot lunches and bags of goodies.
Subaru's contribution provided about 160 of those meals, which included turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, a vegetable, milk and dessert. An all-volunteer team delivered this delicious lunch to older adults who had no visitors and no invitations for Christmas Day. These volunteers also brought gift bags with snacks, hand lotions, shampoo, soap, small gifts, fruit and more for every senior.
Some of the seniors whose day was brightened by Subaru and MEAAA volunteers are regular MEAAA Meals on Wheels clients. Hospital and community social workers, home health care agencies and senior living communities refer many others. However, no federal or state funding is available for the Christmas Day Meals Project, and MEAAA relies on the generosity of caring donors, such as the folks at Subaru.
We've attached some photos so you can see the dedicated volunteers preparing for their routes. More than 60 volunteers cooked, packaged, delivered meals and cleaned up afterward. For many, the Christmas Day delivery was a family project, and the seniors enjoyed meeting the children and hearing them carol. On our volunteers' behalf, and on behalf of the seniors who had a bright holiday because of the meals, gifts and visits, we sincerely thank Subaru for their caring and support.
For the MEAAA staff, Cindy Carlson, information and assistance counselor, coordinated the Christmas Day Meals Project, and Lisa Knoll, case management director, assisted with preparation and delivery.
